Any paint that is loose will have to be scraped off. Sand the edges smooth , prime with a stain blocking primer, then repaint with a bathroom paint. Prep is the key with any paint job.

Sand down that area and repaint and seal afterwards to protect from this happening again good luck!

    suggestions are half right.

the problem is that proper prep was not done before that layer of paint was applied. the surface was either too glossy or had a soap film.

1- scrape or sand to remove as much of the peeling paint as possible (wear a dust mask), 2- WASH and rinse using something like TSP ( no dish soap, Murphys or any thing like that). 3- prime with an adhesion primer. 4- paint the color your heart desires doing TWO coats (99% of the so called 1 coat paints do not come close to their claims).

note : any of the peeling layer you are not able to remove now may come loose later.
