I have two coats of minwax oil based stain on a wooden table top. My general finishes can of high performance says to wait 24 hours before applying over oil stain. It is still tacky and has been almost 24 hours Is it ok to apply the top coat if still a little tacky to the touch?

I would wait until its less tacky, if you can give it another overnight so that it really sets.

Evidently I didn't wipe the excess stain off well enough. Will it eventually dry? Anyway I can help it s little? Wipe with mineral spirits maybe? I'm learning the hard way. Thanks.

Wait until it dries before applying another coat. Drying times are based on humidity and temperatures in the home.

    Heat the room to dry.
