Homemade Christmas Gifts - Succulent Planters

Hometalk DIY projects inspired me to make some homemade Christmas gifts this year. The metal Walmart containers cost about $7 each, and the succulents were fairly inexpensive from Lowe's and Home Depot for about $3 each. Painting the containers with stencils was fun and allowed me to customize the colors for the recipient. The planters were finished by applying a clear glaze over the outside paint to keep it from washing off over time.
Planted 6 to 8 plants per container using "sandy" succulent-type dirt and rocks filling the bottom of the pot.
More examples of the succulents used in each planter.
This is a view of the different stenciled pots. I learned to tape the edges of the straight lines and to use double-stick tape under the stencils to keep them tight and flat and the paint from seeping under the stencil.

I love that you took the trouble to customize these for each individual. Probably made it more fun for you as well!

Those are just stunningly lovely! You've got some very lucky friends, my dear. How thoughtful.
