Is it possible to paint vinyl siding on house
Do I need special paint to paint my old aluminum siding?
Just make sure if you are painting vinyl siding you do not go much darker than the original siding, because it will absorb more heat from the sun and can warp the siding!
I recently googled Painting Vinyl Siding and there are strict rules to follow and a certain paint to use so my suggestion is to google and follow. Good luck and I would love to know how it turns out if you do cuz I need to do this, but budget won't allow for probably a couple more years.
Regardless of the other steps, the most important is to clean the siding thoroughly with, or similar to, TSP. Most older vinyl and metal siding begins to develop a chalky residue as the weather and sun break down the surface. If this chalk is not removed completely you are almost 100% guaranteed to find pain laminating and flaking away. Exterior acrylics are always the safest bet on paint. Also, be sure not to cover up any venting in the siding. If you look under the edge of most siding you will see "weep holes" that allow any moisture or condensation to drain away and not trap it between the sheathing and siding. This could develop mold and mildew real fast. Unhealthy and unsightly!
