I have a brick fireplace that I want to paint
I whitewashed my brick which did wonders to tone down the 70's red brick. Looks much softer now .
Depending on how much brick is involved, you might consider covering it with painted wood trim and/or wood panels and/or new fireplace surround rather than painting the brick.
