If it were me I would replace.
Replacing the glass is both simple and inexpensive. Any home improvement store that cuts glass can walk you through the process.
A friend of mine cut a shower curtain with a geometric designs to fit her kitchen cabinet glass doors (she didn't want the contents of the cabinets to show) and glued the shower curtain pieces with her kids glue (one that dries clear and can be washed of, like Elmer's) to the glass panes (along the sides). It actually looked very elegant.
Another friend used scenery pictures from various calendars on those glass cabinets that got the most messy. She had one cabinet that was France another Italy, Spain, etc., it was interesting to look at.
Change it. You can do it. No one wants/needs a broken glass hazard in a well utilized room. It can drop out and hurt someone.
Replace it - take it out and measure it - go to a glass store and get a new piece cut. It will be worth it.
You can also replace it with this cool chicken wire idea: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/kitchen-dining/kitchen-dining-furniture/replacing-glass-in-a-cabinet-with-chicken-wire-763599?expand_all_questions=1
Replacing Glass in a Cabinet With Chicken Wire
The chicken wire is a cute idea. I like that. Of course replacing it is probably the safest idea. But if you just want to keep it until it falls out or gets knocked out you could mosaic it with a good glass glue and a bright colorful mosaic pattern. I'm partial to the vintage dishes used to mosaic. Even using mosaic you will probably need to back the inside with at least a thin wood back. Then you could spray it with blackboard paint and keep a string of chalk and keep a grocery list on the inside. Good luck with whatever you decide. GayL
Chicken wire painted with a turquoise paint!
i had old music sheet papers placed ..inside of panes so can`t see in...cute but worried you will hurt yourself if leave broken glass in....do you know a picture frame at 1.00 store may have same size glass as in your pane?...if you can`t fit it in ewdges..of wood...how about duct tape it to inside...they make white duct tape ...you would only see it when open the door or remove the glass from all..leave it open...chicken wire...ouch! i have tried tht very hard to get edges bent down..where it doesn`t cut ..etc. screen better
Gorilla glue has a good heavy duty clear packaging tape that you use to put the glass in and you would never see it. The best bet would be replace the glass.
Replace the glass. Bring door to glass store and they will put it in for you. Also, if there are shelves behind the glass, place antique colored dishes, glasses, cups, pitchers behind for a beautiful look. I have them in my kitchen and had a light placed inside. Looks beautiful. Good Luck!
Cabinets that lose their glass allow greasy kitchen dust on the contents that has to be washed off before each use.
Lowes will cut plexit glass to,fit it's clear and durable won't break use clear caulk to,install
I agree.......you need to replace the glass. When you get it done, if you want something truly unique, try etching the glasses with a pattern to suit you. You can buy etching creme to do the job, or if you wanted to spend a little more money, you could have your pattern sand blasted onto the glasses.
If you can, remove the door and take it to a glass shop. They'll do all the work for you. Then take it home and reinstall the door. Finito!
Is this one piece of glass behind the panes or individual small pieces? If its one piece and you want to change the type of glass, like reed or frosted you can replace the whole piece. I found a place in CA that makes them to your dimensions very reasonably.
thought of it two days ago..easy ;easy...just cut and tape fabric to inside of panel..it will be hard to tell if glass broke in one pane...could gather it ...or not go with color theme...you could low melt glue it also...peel off when tired of it...:)
I agree with Suellen Hintz take the entire door to a glazier. Most don't charge that much to replace the broken pane.
I agree, it is so easy to just remove the door and take it to a glass store. They will do all the work for you. Frost if you want, but I love my glass cabinets in my kitchen. I put my best dishes there and they look great. I use these every day. I bought nice covered drink glasses and they look nice behind the glass doors.
Sorry, I ment to say nice colored drink glasses.
Razor blade cuts the glass out, scrape it clean, new piece to size and re-cauKe Glass piece maybe $2.00
Remove the door and take it to a glazer And have him cut a piece for you, or clean up the broken glass and the frame, bring him the dementions and he will cut the size u need,
