dead head it for now and it may flower again. Prune heavy in winter
Hydrangeas should not be pruned until you see the new growth emerge. You will end up cutting the flowers for the coming season.Only dead wood should be cut out.
You can prune a limelight hydrangea in late winter/early spring. I would just remove the spent flowers this year. The reason I would wait is to see how it is shaped. I like to trim mine in late fall. I always leave a few flowers for winter and remove them in the spring. They bloom on new wood. Best of luck!
We live in New York State and when we first got hydrangeas, I pruned them at the end of the summer. The next spring there were almost no flowers. I ifound out later that I shouldn't have pruned them. Some hydrangeas grow flowers on last year's stalks. I would google "limelight hydrangeas" and get specific information about your specific plant.
