No priming or sanding necessary! Just clean the surface and begin painting! I looooove chalkpaint for that exact reason!!
Honestly there are those that say no sanding,however different woods and finishes require some sanding.
Some finishes do require prep work, as Janet said. (Even some of the most expensive chalk type paints.) If you want a finish that will hold up in the long run, and look professional, you still need to prep.
I agree with Cheryl. Always sand and prime. Your project will come out a lot nicer and in the long run it will be less work because you will have to go over all the places your not happy with if you don't do the prep.
