I do not recommend using concrete as a finished surface in a shower or surround. Concrete is perfectly adequate, if not recommended, for use as the shower pan base for materials such as stone, tile or mosaic tile to be used as the finish surface (as long as there is a proper membrane between the concrete and any vulnerable surrounding material). The force of water cascading from the shower-head will quickly erode the cement and reveal the rough texture of the fines (sand). Over time, the exposed layer of cement will trap dirt—concrete cannot withstand the relentless water erosion. This is the primary reason many contractors shy away from concrete tubs and concrete vessel sinks. I don’t think they stand a chance against the inevitability of water erosion and exposure to dirt and grime on a daily basis.

I suggest moisture-resistant drywall instead, good luck!

I have seen cement shower floors but they have to be sealed very well. Concrete is very porous and will absorb the water, become softer in the run. Difficulty in cleaning, ruining the wall behind it, molds. It would have to have lots of sealing to make it pracital.

Concrete is very porous and prone to cracking - I would say there are more reliable options to that your home doesn't sucrose to mold problems either. Green board - taped and mudded with nice tile or a one piece tub surround
