The Desktop Project – It’s All About the Paint

4 Materials
I am slowly working through an office refresh one small project at a time. The first two projects, Taming the Wires and My Desk Drawer Project, were both small projects that had an enormous effect on the organization of my office space. This week’s project, Desktop Refresh-It’s All About the Paint, is all about the esthetics of my desktop.
I began this project by removing everything from the desktop, choosing my paint (white chalk paint), paint brush, stencil, and sealant.
You can see all of the stains and scuff marks on the desk and the yellowing is because when I painted the desk the first time, I used polyurethane instead of polyacrylic. I have learned since then that polyurethane has a tendency to yellow over time. Believe it or not, the desktop was painted a pure white the first time around. We learn something from each project.
Once again, I chose a pure white paint. But this time I used a chalk paint instead of a wall paint. I also invested in a better brush because the less expensive ones leave bristles in the paint.
I also added a stencil to the desktop. The stencil is one of my favorite Bible verses and helps to break us all of the expansive white of the desktop. It is a perfect addition and a positive message that I see every time I sit down at my desk.
I also purchased a letter holder with a positive message. So as I sit at my desk, I get to read Living the Dream and my favorite Bible verse. And I happen to believe in positive affirmation. If you would like to see the finished project, and I hope you do, please visit my site at www.clearisacoward.com and see the project in its entirety. It is amazing what a coat of paint can do.
