What are you using to clean it?
Once the plating is gone there is nothing that can be done that would be permanent. Some have tried Rub N Buff, but it is wax based and won't last. Others have painted faucets, but with water and moisture the paint will eventually fail. Only solution is to replace the handles.
By the time you purchase paint and remove the fixture to spray it you could just as easily purchase a new fixture and replace it. Replacement fixtures are not expensive and would be a better long term fix than trying to update with a temporary paint job. You will be much happier with a new faucet!
To add to my comment painting is temporary, however the most cost efficient for the moment as spray paint is less then five dollars.
If your fixture was made by Delta, call them. They have a lifetime warranty.
Don't use anything that is abrasive. That will destroy factory finishes. Stay away from ammonia based cleaners. Regular soap, dawn or some thing like that is better. An old toothbrush might help also. Wipe them off regularly and that will keep them looking factory fresh. I do.
Delta is based in Indiana, and will be glad to help if that is who made them. I would try the manufacturer first. They might send you a new one just for good customer service.
