There are places that will transfer your tapes to CDs; and do it very reasonably. I found a couple on a site Living Social (at reduced prices). A friend just had several done and was thrilled with the results.
I'd say: go for the purge, save one or two if they are significant or nostalgic but you'll feel great getting rid of the rest!
I agree with Hillea G; only keep those that are significant and purge the rest. Eliminate the clutter.
Is there any way to recycle the tape or plastic case?
Call your local recycling plant and ask
Yes, different areas in the country have their own recycling rules...Call your local township, county or city and ask their advice. If you have any commercial movies, you can get duplicates in CD form on Amazon for little money. Our local Goodwill takes our VHS tapes...If you do have a VHS player, it won't last forever.
If they are movie tapes, you could donate them to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, a Disabled American Veterans store, or perhaps some center for the homeless.
I donated all mine to a local resale center that supports the homeless.
Or donate them to your local library
The tape is great in a fire. Kids will love it!
I meant to say that Amazon.com has DVD's of old movies...(not CD's)...
but most everyone knows this anyway. Just covering the base.
Depending on the subject matter, children's hospitals, even your local libraries would appreciate your donations of movies or books. We did that before moving, and our library gave us a tax document for $500.00. That was for many books and tapes, but they used some in the library, and sold some in their book sale to raise money for new books and movies, so win win!
