There is a website Heritage Paints. They have products that pain leather and cloth couches, clothing etc....I dont see why carpet should be so difficult. The owner of the company is Paula Blankenship.....I think....ask her advice first. I painted my 3 sit, 2 sit and 1 sit dark brown 25 year old leather couch and it looks new again....Good luck.
You can hire professionals who will dye your carpet. Think painting will make each strand of yarn stiff. I've seen an antique sofa that was painted and although it is beautiful to look at, the fabric is very stiff.
