Tip: Ikea hack for storage!

I turned my Expedit on its side and gave it a little more height with some bed risers. (I wanted actual legs but didn't want to spend the dollars to buy legs.) These really fit the bill nicely and if I really wanted I could hide them with some stained boards. The black DRONA storage box hides extra shoes. Text books and a jar of pencils as a reminder... Do you have pencils for school? A black basket has extra socks for when there is a mad dash out the door and no time to run upstairs. (You know, for us that is every day! icon ) In my old house, I had boxes labeled 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 (Each child had a number) in our mudroom and we kept their sock there with their shoes. It is also fun to change the decor with the seasons. I have a mantel but it is so narrow. I find this allows for more freedom in decorating.

Mine is just the right height to fit under our window. We salvaged bun feet from a flood damaged sofa. I store baskets and boxes that hold our photo albums and serve as a file cabinet for papers I want to keep that don't need lock and key. I had a 4 x 4 unit at another house that served as a linen cabinet and now serves my sister as an organizer in her pantry/ walk in closet. Expedition is a very versatile unit. My next wish list use is in my sewing corner under the eaves. I need fabric storage that doesn't involve getting on hands and knees behind the knee wall.

  • Very pretty! Love items like this, can be used for so many things around the house.

I am in the process of redoing my bedroom and I'm using these. I'm stairstepping them on one whole wall. Above the lowest section I put a shutter mirror and I think it looks fabulous. I bought two of the four shelf ones for my bedside tables. I'm checking out places for nik naks now. I'm loving it.

I made it. But if you are interested, I would be happy to post a tutorial on it. Just let me know!

I also made my own out of cement. We have a second hand cushioned bench that was missing a foot. Since this would be in the basement, I didn’t want wood or metal on bare cement floors due to moisture issues. I crafted a mold based on the bun feet upstairs and mixed up cement, filled the mold and as it set up I added the screw. (Held in place with a cardboard “lid”). After the fourth leg had cured I glued heavy felt to the bottom of each one. (Eventually we will have a finished basement floor).

Thank you Stacy. Auto correct isn’t always correct, but it does seem to have the last word. Type your message. Proof read. Click “send”. Read it again and it was changed as it was sent. Maybe I should go back to handwritten letters.
