There is a product called Zep Acidic Toilet Bowl Cleaner that I have found to be very effective. I also use a pumice stone to keep the ring from forming. The stone does not damage porcelain toilets and removes the rings that form at the water line. I hope this will help you.
Be the last person at night to use the toilet, and give it a normal swish with the brush. Flush. Then, add about a cup of white vinegar after the bowl is filled, and go to bed. Next morning give it a brush swish. If it hasn't all come loose, repeat that night. I inherited a solid BROWN stain where the water sat, and after trying everything I could find...that failed....I asked my wise father and he gave me what I just gave you. My toilet took two nights of the white vinegar treatment. No heavy scrubbing needed at all. Give it a whirl!
If your toilet brush isn't presentable, as most are not, leave the brush in the toilet when you use the vinegar! A chore accomplished and a bonus clean brush!

I used about a cup of white vinegar and it DID NOT work. The stain wasn't bad, what did I do wrong?hummmmmmmmm. I let it set about 4 hrs. with NO use. I scrubbed it with my brush and left the brush in the hole.
Re: the coke and your "inners". There's more acid in a glass of orange juice, plus think of the hydrochloride acid in your stomach. It isn't the acid that does the cleaning.

Fill with a regular Coke. Let it sit and you will have a clean toilet.

If the above don't work, get a Pumi Stick in the cleaning section of most grocery & hardware stores. Then scrub away.
