I use oven cleaner. Just spray on pots and let sit for a little while, rinse and wash. If you still have some grease, repeat. Use oven cleaner in a well ventilated area.

Can not use oven cleaner on aluminum pots though. It makes them look awful.

Believe it or not, my Grandmother used to use ketchup and salt. She had copper bottom pots and used a wood stove so you can imagine the mess it made of them. She would spread ketchup on the bottom and sprinkle with salt. After a few minutes she'd use a scrub pad and they would come out like new. I'm not sure this will work for you, but might be worth a try.

I make a paste by mixing baking soda and some olive oil then. using a paper towel I scrub the marks off. I also use this paste on my stove and any other tough marks. Even better thou gh is a product called Astonish oven and cookware cleaner. I ordered it through Regal the best stuff Ever!

I use a half-and-half mixture of ammonia and water in a spray bottle to clean the kitchen grease off my oven hood. It wipes off easily. (You *must* have good ventilation to use ammonia!) I've not tried it on pans. I don't know how your aluminum will fare with this concoction; I've not tried it on pots and pans.
