How do I remove mildew on wood?

have 2 Amish made twig rockers; the arms seem to have "black spots" I'm assuming could be mildew? they sit on the screened porch year-round, get snowed on, humidity, rain, etc. Want to clean up and wax. Any ideas best way to clean and with what? Thanks!

If these tips don't work, consider the possibility that it may be a mushroom spore. We have the problem where I live - tiny black spots on outdoor surfaces. They don't come off without major work.
