How We Keep Our Entryway Free of Shoes & Coats

I built a 'shoe cupboard' out of crates under a bench; the shelves installed inside the crates are divided so only 1 pair of shoes goes into each slot. The bench gives everyone a place to sit down to take off/put on their shoes and the easy access to put them away is right there. The coats go into a closet 4' in front of the bench so the coats are hung up Before the shoes are taken off - there are hooks for the young kids and hangers for the older kids and adults. But, the best thing of all is 'Grannie's Rule' (my rule) which is printed on the front of the closet; it says: "Whomever leaves their coat or shoes piled down, gets the 'Privilege' of keeping this area clean until the next person doesn't follow the rules!" Needless to say, Grannie (me) doesn't have to spend any time cleaning out mudroom/entryway since I 'follow the rules'. ;-)

I love love love that you only have one pair in each section! I hate rummaging through. Thanks for sharing!

Sure stops the 'spats' between the kids, I even labeled some of the upper sections for the younger ones. Since they only wear tennis shoes - most of the time- they fit better on the top, shallower shelf.
