this is not a comment, it goes with the state spoon rack. I do not have skills to work with wood, other then modge podge, etc. ;hammering. I have many spoons.
Go to Goodwill or Salvation Army.........Every time I go to Goodwill, I see more than one. I would never try to DIY a spoon rack!
How about a large US map pasted to a firm backing. Frame it or just cover the edges in fabric, ribbon, or pretty paper. You could use lots of different ways to attach the spoons. If the backing is wood: screws, nails, small eye-bolts (tie spoon on with thin, pretty ribbon or even fishing line for a disappearing act), etc. A heavy foam board could be pierced and threaded with ribbon, fishing line, or wire.
