When You No Longer Read Books but You Need a Pantry, What Do You Do?

I am a very heavy reader, unfortunately, due to a problem with my shoulders ( I've been reading for about 60 years) I can no longer hold a book. Luckily, I've got myself an iPad and I can read without using my hands. Then I find myself with a large bookcase with no books ( I donated my books to a nursing home ). At the same time, I needed a pantry. My kitchen is very small and i didn't have room in it to build a pantry, besides being very expensive. So, I talked with my hubby of 54 years and asked him if he can cover the sides and build the doors. Well, he did as I asked and here we have our pantry. Right now, it is all black, maybe somebody can came up with some idea to give a little color.

Don't you think the tassels give it an elegant look? No one needs to know that it is a pantry. Great re-purpose of a bookcase.

They will get used to it and not notice, in just a short time. Have you looked at any pretty gold colored knobs, or an accent piece to go behind the black knobs? Perhaps some simple addition like that would "lighten" the all black and yet still keep it looking elegant, and it would only take you or your husband a couple minutes to do the changeover. The black ones could probably even be painted gold, but the paint might cost more than a couple gold knobs. Make sure they are alright with your husband though, because I'm sure he's very proud of his nice work! I'm only suggesting this because you asked for suggestions.

My husband used to help me with things too, but he's gone now and I see so many projects I'd love to try, but couldn't do them myself. God bless you both as you work together at things like this, and for over 50 years! That's wonderful!

You can always paint on a gold border or use contact paper to accent the cabinet. Even put some trim on the doors to upscale the look. If you use wood trim. Paint it in an accent color to tie it into the room

It's good to be flexible when our abilities change. A pantry

will be a good thing plus you have solved your reading problem

and given many others the gift of a book!

LOL!! If I changed my house to everyone else's likes, I would live in a non- descript boring house. I like different & interesting things!!
