How do you keep an entryway simple and clear?

This is what I do: Since it's just my husband and I at home now we both enter thru the garage and with just the two of us, we really don't come in with a lot of stuff like when our kids were little, and I had no method then, everything was just thrown on the stairs as soon as they walked in after school. But now, I have an ornate heavy duty piece on one wall with four hooks that our coats go on and on another smalller wall I have a smaller piece where his keys are hung. Mine stay in my purse, which I usually just keep hanging in my closet.
Sounds a little boring I know, but that's the life of these empty nester!! lol
*Until my one year old grandson comes over and no rules apply, he's likes the Tazmanian Devil, lol.

Great idea. Here's what we do - Find spots for stuff!! All coats & shoes in the closet. Go thru mail over the recycle bin. Put stuff away instead of leaving it somewhere. Have bins or baskets for receipts, things that need to go out the door, etc - clean out frequently. Keep recycle bin handy - ours is out in the open, so I bought a lined wicker clothes basket.

We just bought our forever house & I am determined to keep it looking nice instead of stuffed like our old house!

I used an AFW white shabby dresser and nightstand. (they were not distressed, but a high-class white finish) The night stand was an end table and the slightly larger three drawer dresser held gloves, scarves etc. and made my living room/foyer and adorable, upscale chic country, shabby cottage-y space. Now I have replaced that look with an old rustic floor to ceiling wooden compartment shelf. I put gloves, shoes, umbrellas keys in the small compartments. There are about 60 compartments and it is a total conversation stopper as everyone stops and oohs and ahs. However, it wasn't meant to be that conversation piece. I was just desperate for storage and found this for 280.00 at a local yard sale/ estate sale.
