You can use your fingers to blend a bit of the red into mirror and that way you can really control the amount and the thickness

You might try dry brushing some red. To do that take a "ratty" old brush, dip the tips in the red paint, then on a cloth or paper towel brush most of the paint off until it is almost dry and lightly brush the areas you want to add red to. I like to use this method to give a distressed look to some of the furniture I paint. Good luck!!

sometimes a small sponge (even a make-up sponge) can be used, or try rag-rolling or a scrunched up plastic shopping bag for a different effect.
You could (if you don't want alot) of red just takea brush dip in paint and with your fingers pull the brush back and let the paint flip on to what ever you are painting.This will put flicks of red you can decide how much you want a small amount or more.
