This is a major undertaking. You would be dealing with foundation walls, slab, and structural systems, and permits. First go the your building department and they should be able to help you out with planning and requirements. You may find its cheaper to purchase a prefab knock down steel building or a kit garage from Home Depot or Lowes.
Thanks William. That is what I was thinking also but wanted a second, third, or fourth opinion! lol
I don't mean to rain on your parade, Shelia, but if you can't figure out how many 8 x 8 1/2 inch cement blocks you would need for this project. you shouldn't even think about trying it! This is something a General Contractor should handle. In the long run a prefab (as recommended earlier) would be your best bet - but don't expect to put it up by yourself - and don't expect it to be standing for very long in tornado country. Wishing you lots of luck!
Why do you want it to be blocks. They make a thing called a framing kit. sold in lots of places, online , Harbor freight , Northern tools. These kits are great for beginners. They are easy can probably put up in a weekend. However, someone is still going to have to get on the roof some 14 to 16 feet high. Whether concrete or wood this is a must. Can you do this and who is going to hang this door. Overhead door has great roll up doors or automatic ones. Footings are a most in any event. You don't want it to sink or blow away. Look on line at Metal buildings they will do all the work too
Thanks, that is what I decided too Shari. I saw a neat pizza oven made from the cement blocks that I might try for my first project! I have decided to get a metal carport for the travel trailer and kayak....
