there used to be additive you put in craft paint to make the paint more pliable for clothes, haven't been in the craft department for a while.. don't know if it's still out there.
There are all kinds of paint you can use on fabric, but when I'm stenciling I use fabric paint. It tends to be thicker and I can get sharper lines. It also usually sets with an iron and washes well.
