Rustoleum Counter top transformation is brilliant, a lot of hard work but worth it for the end result, a nice stone look top available in a few different colours.

I have done a vanity and 2 kitchens just using house paint for the base color and then small bottles of acrylic craft paint for the faux granite colors. I roll the base coat on with a 6" foam roller let dry pour my acrylic onto a paper or foam plate and start dabbing on using a sea sponge. I typically do 4-6 colors working with one at a time letting dry between each coat then let dry for 24 hours and add 4-5 coats of water based poly. Usually cost me around $25.

I primed and painted my old country blue Formica countertops black. I used a natural sponge to add silver and more black paint; the black was for depth. I tossed some fine gold glitter on them and sealed it all with a 2 part epoxy resin. They turned out beautiful and saved me thousands of dollars. My countertops would have all been 'custom' to have made, not one was a standard size or shape. I have to be careful about knives scratching and pots right off the stove melting, but they are still great 2 years later!

I just finished doing my laminate counters by skim coating concrete and sealing them. Really love how they turned out! Lots of information out there on how to do it! Google
