How could I condition my painted sofa?

I've just painted my sofa and loveseat using fabric medium and latex paint -- they turned out terrific! The cushions however, feel a little canvas-y (is that even a word?) and I'm wondering if waxing would soften them. I see waxing recommended if you've used chalk paint as it seals everything, but since I used latex, I'm thinking perhaps waxing won't make any difference. Has anyone waxed latex-painted fabric?... and did it help to soften? Cheers

Use some very fine sandpaper, 200 to 400 grit and lightly sand in the grain direction. It should soften the fabric.

Thanks William. I did sand in between every coat with 320 grit and it did help a lot. As another poster points out, it may just take some wear and tear to soften them up some more.

The other thing that will really help is -use. The more you use the chair, the more it will soften up.

Thanks Hillela: It's the back pillow-type cushions of the sofa and loveseat that are a little canvas-y (I'm starting to like that word!) so maybe I'll arrange for a pillow-fight to knock some of the stiffness out of them! LOL

I agree with William- sanding it with 200 grit should soften it up a bit. :-)

Thanks Shoshana: I sanded everything really well between each coat -- which was the least fun part of the project! I think I'll just leave everything for now and see if things soften up a bit with use.
