What To Do Before New Year's Eve

New year, new beginning! This is also true in Japan where people have a custom at the end of every year to thoroughly clean their homes and de-clutter. The custom is known as osoji, but this is not what we want to emphasize. We love this tradition and cleaning at the end of the year could be beneficial for many reasons.
1. Start the new year without unfinished projects. If you have been meaning to fix the door knob, repurpose the old empty wine bottles, now will be a good time.
2. Clean extensively. Try to get rid of clutter, dirt and stains. It will make you feel incredible. Cleaning chases blues away. Let alone the fact that it is a good exercise which is always welcome during Christmas time, but it will also help you come across things you've been looking for. Even if you find money in the pockets of old pieces of clothing, it is still enough to make you smile!
3. De-clutter. Speaking about blues, have you had a disappointment in 2013? Maybe a relationship that ended painfully? If you still keep reminders of it in your home, it is time to let go and get rid of them. These things will only slow you down and drag you backwards.
Have a Happy, Clean and Organized New Year!

Closet Tip: Determine which clothes you no longer need by arranging your hangers. All backward hangers at the end of the year means you haven't worn a piece of clothing and are less likely to ever need it again!
The healthiest approach to clutter is to not have it! Make it a NY's resolution to always go from room to room, upstairs and downstairs with something to throw away, or put back in place. Never go empty-handed!
Repurpose and upcycle. Find ways to organize small items in boxes, hangers or bags.
Sort clutter in the traffic light method (red – stay or keep, yellow- wait, green – go or recycle)
