Foam for kitchen window seat. It measures 76 1/2" x 13".

Shari on Dec 30, 2013I have heard buying cushion foam at places like Joann Fabrics is really expensive. An alternate solution that is suppose to be more budget friendly is buying a foam mattress pad at some place like Walmart and cutting it to fit. A twin size mattress is only 75 inches long so you could either wrap the foam with batting to take up that extra inch you need or maybe use spray adhesive to "glue" 2 pieces together to get the 76 length. A twin size foam pad would also be wide enough (39 inches) that you could cut it in half length-wise and stack two pieces to double the height of the cushion if you need it thicker. If you do that, I think I would use the spray adhesive to glue the two pieces together so there isn't a problem with them shifting.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Dec 30, 2013If you have ever been in an upholstery shop, you will know that they glue foam together...in fact some have glue that sprays from a hose much like that used to put oil in your car...feeds from a big bottle! So this should workHelpful Reply

Vicki Menton on Jan 01, 2014The mattress pad is a great idea. I have purchased foam at our local Army Surplus store. They had all different lengths and thickness. It was very affordable. It is also a great place to purchase cast iron cookware.Helpful Reply

Leah on Jan 01, 2014If you have any local bedding manufacturers, the factory would be able to cut a specific foam piece for you. You might need to go through a retail store who carries their product and place the order. Some of these companies do custom orders, so a piece of foam would be simple.Helpful Reply

Roxann Vine on Jan 01, 2014Check out a store that carries camping supplies. In the NW we have a chain called Fred Meyers, they have sheets of 8" foam that is twin size for $20 which is very cheap compared to fabric stores.Helpful Reply

Linda Weeks on Jan 01, 2014...and check Ebay - I had to find a cushion to fit a bench I had, and everything was too expensive, but I found a lady on Ebay who had fabric choices and many different sizes... I'd send a link, but don't know if she is still in business. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Sharon on Jan 01, 2014I have purchased foam at Joann Fabrics and was very pleased with it. You want it to be dense enough that wont collapse when you sit on it. It's well worth the price because it will last forever.Helpful Reply

Jean DeSavage on Jan 02, 2014Definitely use one of the coupons and go to Jo-Ann's. I've done cushions professionally for people and that's where I get mine. Remember, time is money, and messing around with remaking something from a mattress pad will probably not satisfy you in the end. Also, when you get the foam, get some polyester batting to wrap over the top edges of the foam. This will help your cushion look better and be more comfortable when sitting. A couple of other suggestions, your cushion will hold up better and look better longer if you put cording in the edge seams. This will help to give the cushion cover shape and help to keep the edges straight. Make sure the foam you buy is dense, and be sure to get at the very least 3 inch thick foam, remember, it will press down quite a bit when anyone, especially adults, sits on it. I hope this helps. If you have any trouble figuring out the cushion pattern, give me a shout and I can help.Helpful Reply

Loisrnc on Aug 20, 2014I purchased some foam for a window seat at Hancock Fabrics. They have all thicknesses. I wanted mine at least 3 inches thick. It was 24 inches wide, and I cut it in half with an electric knife. It was on sale for half price. I thought it was a great deal. It is nice and firm!!!Helpful Reply

Sunshine on Jun 24, 2016I had the same challenge, and found the large size foam piece for my window seat, pricey. I used a mattress for a baby's crib, in Amazon;s Warehouse Deals (no foam, no chemicals and bacteria, which foam harbors) Perfect! Used an old electric knife to cutHelpful Reply
