Prune them in the spring/early summer, right after they bloom.
Only prune them after they have stopped flowering.
Be VERY careful with oleanders - they are deadly to pets and kids!
oleander is one of the deadliest plants. make sure to dispose of all cuttings....even the smoke from burning oleander is poisonous. make sure to shower thoroughly after handling this plant and wash all clothes/gloves as toxins can linger for days on skin or clothing...otherwise prune after blooming....best bet GET RID OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
campers are notorious about gathering unknown wood for camp fires. several a year make the mistake of burning oleander and have died as a result of the inhaling of this deadly smoke...please only use wood you are familiar with or make a rule of only wood that is 3" or more in diameter...better safe than sorry......and never ever ever cook any meal over this wood...the toxins enter the food...you ingest it...YOU DIE.
