Lightly sand, clean, prime with Kilz or Zinser, allow to dry, paint, allow to dry,and protect with a non-yellowing polycrylic.
I agree with Janet! Use a foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish. No brush marks.
We just posted a tutorial on using chalk paint and furniture wax to refinish furniture. No primer or sanding needed and looks beautiful! http://www.hometalk.com/diy/bedroom/furniture/how-to-use-chalkpaint-to-fake-an-expensive-shabby-chic-nightstand-28041728
How To Use Chalkpaint to Fake an Expensive Shabby Chic Nightstand
Love the chalk paint tutorial. Great idea for your project. Good luck.
Just do chalk paint - so easy!
I wish I had discovered chalk paint long ago. The finish is beautiful and there is no stripping needed. You would have to put several coats of polycrylic to prevent watermarks.
Great comments and answers! will also be using these techniques....
