My mom used boiling hot water. Or do as general Sherman did on his march to the sea!!! SALT
Salt is a good remedy. A spray of vinegar also works!
Wow Thank you Got both of these in my cupboard no need to buy anything
My system was between the deck and pool house, a real pain to mow and a eye sore. It has three lids. I dug up the grass and planted a ground cover called Asiatic Jasmine. You can not plant anything with deep roots. I put down edging to make a gravel walk way to the pool house. I then wrapped edging around the lids twice so it would be strong. I let it stick out of the ground about a inch and a half. I will cut a round piece of lumber to set on it. You can't have weight on the lids. I broke one with a birdbath. Iam going to set planters on the wood. I put a fake rock over the motor and some real rocks in the bed. Can't wait for the ground cover to take off and get plants on the lids. A work in process but I love it and one less place to mow.
i posted this to the lady with the septic tank, not sure why it showed up here. I hope she sees it
Apply a fertilizer with crab grass control in it. Apply in spring before the grass starts to grow.
Like the previous posts, I've always had great results with vinegar and salt. I use it whenever needed from late spring and all the way up to fall. The difference for me as that I use them together. First I sprinkle the salt on all the offending weeds. Then I pour or spray the vinegar on top of the salt. By the next day, wilted, dying or dead plants are all I see!
Just make sure you don't get it on any of your other plants or flowers because it will kill them also.
Use salt and eventually nothing will grow there... use a spray of 5% (canning) vinegar and a tbs. of dawn dish soap. water in evening, then next afternoon after water drys, spray w/ what ever you chose to do with.. it'll die, but like other noxious weeds it's an on going battle, no such thing as once and done...
Thank you so many good recipes
I personally would go for a double strong dose of Round-Up. Apply it anytime of the year when you see green on the plant! (Read the label and follow the temperature guidelines for your product.)
Yes the salt, vinegar and small amount of dish-washing liquid works in a spray bottle. However salt sprinkled directly onto the weed on a very hot day after any moisture has dried out from over night also works. Also pouring boiling water directly from the electric jug / kettle can also work.
Thank you I didn't know about adding dish soap
