Carrie Dyer on Dec 31, 2013sorry I'm not very trendy @ all but to me the only difference really are the legs. Am I off base? Would re painting some wooden crates to attach to the bottom of the bed?Helpful Reply

Lee Cunningham Green on Sep 13, 2014Well i think the toughest part would actually being securing the mattress, perhaps you could get a box-spring mattress combo, like some hotels have? Or you would have to physically attach the mattress' to each other, not impossible I am sure. Now this sounds strange but I would first turn the bed up to see how much room you would require and perhaps you could actually have it go into the wall, that of course would involve cutting out drywall and creating headers etc. but that would be super cool. Then i would think creating a plywood box to accommodate the mattress' like IKEA an actual box, Piano Hinge, and a couple of hydraulic arms so that it didn't just fall off the wall. You would not really need to make significant feet on the bed or you could build up the actual box so there would be no need for feet. Then the fun part, on the underside of the "bed you could create a mural" LOL .. don't think I did you any good but I had fun thinking about it. Good luck.Helpful Reply

HappyNanaSTLMO on Dec 18, 2014Eileen, I've never been a huge fan of Murphy beds, but I have been very intrigued by all the "bed under the floor" ideas I've come across in recent years, and I plan to incorporate that into my own space eventually. You might want to check out these links and see if you might find any inspiration for creative ways to layer your floor space. Some of the ideas look like they would be inexpensive and not too complicated to pull off. Plus, they would not only give you the floor space you need, but would still accomplish another goal of minimizing the "bedroom look" for when the room is used for guitar instruction, but still be very easy to flip to "bedroom mode" when you want it for that purpose.
