How to paint laminate cabinets?

Sounds silly I know, but I've never tried painting my laminate kitchen cabinets. I can't afford new ones so I was wondering what the process is to getting it done, if it's possible. I have a feeling I can't just slap some paint on and expect it to look great at the end! Even I know that would be asking too much! Any suggestions are much appreciated, thank you!! Sharon icon

    I agree with Janet!

Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123. Then paint with your color. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

  • Tried all those ways... and what worked with a rental I sold was... Primer of MILK paint if you can believe it.. gave a slight texture... for the reg. sherwin williams cabinet paint to adhere to.. and it did not scratch off... Hired a pro.. to prime and paint first ... and the paint was scrathcing off every time it got bumped... but when I milk painted with a color near to the final color it was flawless.
