If proper prep. was done I would call the manufacturer.
Different woods will take stain differently. Soft woods with open grain will absorb more stain while tight grain hardwoods will absorb less. I wood try some dark stain and try to match using both in staining and blending. I usually try an inconspicuous spot before I fully stain. I also have a sample board with different patches of stain applied so I know what it would look like.

according to the color chart display for pine, this shouldn't have been orange in color..... I tried to goto the website for general finishes and didnt see a customer service telephone # or even an email address for help, only this forum . i guess my thing is, i looked on the general finishes chart and this finish looks nothing like their display for pine wood for the color black cherry.
I stained all the wood trim, molding, ceiling beams for my cottage, and even though all same type wood, same stain, there are some variations, which I just lived with. It is very difficult to matchstain identically. If you stirred well the first time, I would sand first, then try a darker stain ( test somewhere inconspicuou till you're satisfied) Good luck! I know the frustration of things not turning out like I envisioned!
You could try wiping it with a darker (walnut?) gel stain and see if that helps. My dad used to use lamp black, a bit at a time, to darken stains. It worked; probably oil based before the use of water based stains. We did the wipe with walnut on my cherry hanging shelves and it took a lot of the red out. Good luck.
