They keep pooping in my landscaping and laying on and smashing my daylilies....ugh!!!!!!!!
I use landscape fabric and then mulch over it.
Or newspapers.
Thank you for replying! I don't take a newspaper here, but I could find some!
Nothing!! Weeds will grow on top of the landscape fabric/newspaper/mulch!!
Preen. Early in the spring. And every 6 to 8 weeks.
What a great idea! I recently reupholstered a chair and I used some leftover screen material for the bottom. I will use the landscape fabric next time! Thank you!
Hahaha! I think i knew that answer, but didn't want to hear it! Thank you!
Fabric, covered by Preen then mulch. If this doesn't work nothing will
Thank you!
Hi Missy, Liz here from SimpleDecoratingTips.com.
Argh... weeds! So frustrating when they show up! The best thing I've figured out to do is to weed the garden really well, (get the roots out!) then immediately sprinkle and water in a good dose of Preen. It will not kill any weeds that are already growing, it only stops weed seeds from sprouting. That's why you will need to get rid of the weeds growing there first.
Once I've gotten the garden in good shape, to keep it that way, I then will sprinkle preen on 2 times a growing season, the spring and fall. It has made an amazing difference in my garden!
I have had spots where it got out of hand so bad that I dug out my perennials, and sprayed the whole space with round up. It'll kill anything, so that's why I've removed the perenials, (of you can cover them with a bucket, but be careful, you don't want the round up mist to even get on the leaves of something you want to keep alive) then after a couple weeks, (see manufacture's directions) raked the dead stuff off, and re-planted my perennials. Then did a preen treatment right away to keep the weed seeds from sprouting in there all over again.

Thank you for your time and details. I don't think I'd like the Round-Up method, but I'll look in to the Preen!
I use mulch, bought at the big box store. I prefer pine bark nuggets over the shredded stuff. Put a good layer on and, if any weeds start, you can just pull then out, roots and all!
Thank you, Dixie! I'll try the pine bark nuggets this time.
