Should I use a different color to Wallpaper the back of a bookcase?

i have a wall with a built in bookcase floor to ceiling. I'm asking if I should use a different color of paper on the wall that is the back of the bookcase.

I would not spend the arduous time or money on paper . I would chose a base color from the exisiting paper and paint with a satin sheen. Possibly choosing a variety of colors for each section?

I agree with Johnchip. I would paint the back of the bookcase instead of papering it. It will accent it better and make it more visible.

First, what will you display? I agree that paint is the way to go but one to highlight what you will display. You could just paint the edge of shelves. A nice metallic color. Or do both. The important thing, I think is to first know what will be displayed, then choose color and remember white is a color and different finishes add different sheen as well.

Paint is easiest. You could also use foamboard or cardboard and cover it with wall paper or fabric. The you can change it when you want, and it is easier to just recover the board.

My daughter and I put wallpaper up before I built the shelves and I love it. I think it is more "dignified" with the wallpaper behind the shelves. The shelves were painted a color as close to the wallpaper as possible, that way the bookshelves kind of disappear into the background.

You have choices -- wallpaper, paint it, or maybe contact paper that's easy to remove later on if you get tired of it.
