I picked up a piece at a flea market I couldn't resist, but I don't know what to do with it. My house is furnished in antiques so I'd like to keep the original finish.

Planters. Or hang on the wall with the backs to the wall and use as shelves for books or accessories. would not paint.

  • I bought just drawers that look very similar to those you have there. We hung them in my daughter's house as shelving. We just wiped them with Lemon oil and they look great. If you don't want t hang them, can you line them and place small potted plants inside?

Thank you for that idea. We'd have to put a top on it to use it as a shelf, but my husband is good as such things. Just have to get him to make time for it.

They look just like the drawers from my treadle sewing machine. I would put a wooden top on it, and use it for mending supplies or craft supplies.

They are sewing machine antique drawers and have some value - so don't do anything permanent to ruin their value.

I think this would make a great planter!

Thank you. I have been considering that, but am leaning toward silk plants to assure it stays as it is.

I would love to have that near my desk for holding check books, note cards, stamps, envelopes, and so on. If the drawers will not fit an existing shelf, consider putting a top on to make the drawers looked finished and perhaps slender legs. It will depend some on where you expect to use them. I currently use a table as my working desk, and they would fit nicely right here under the work surface with almost no change. Why don't you just send them on down to Texas? L* Seriously, good luck. What a delightful find!

Wish I had two! So you could have one. I'd like to use it decoratively, but thank you for your suggestion.

I have a set of those drawers. I went to my local granite shop got a scrap piece of granite to put on top and I have them sitting on my kitchen counter with tea bags in the drawers and our grandchildren's pictures on top. I love it.

Good idea. Thank you. If I decide to put a top on it, granite will be my first choice.

    Considering that. Thanks.

My husband put a top on the ones I have and I use it for my sewing things...thread, scissors, buttons, etc. I also found four matching sets and he put a top on it and turned it into a table. Major convenient storage for things like remotes, pens/pencils, Post-it notes.

I decided to put it on the counter if my great room by the phone to hold exactly the types of things you suggested, pens post-it notes, etc. inhavent decided if I want a top on it. Some of my items are tall and don't look bad sticking out the top. Thank you for your suggestion.

Yes, they're side drawers from an old treadle sewing machine. I inherited two of them and used them for a while (as decorative pieces, mostly to display houseplants). I tried selling them to antique shops with no luck, they told and show me many they couldn't sell. Seems there are too many of them around our area and no one wants them. I eventually did sell one of them at a garage sale for a lot less than what I had hoped. Oddly enough, at my garage sale last year, the lady who bought it showed me a pic of what they did with it. They took out the sewing machine, removed the wooden top and placed a granite top on the iron frame and now it's a beautiful table with a nod to the past !

I like the idea from the previous posts about putting a top on just the drawer stacks and using them as storage. Great ideas !
