Yes you can just make sure it is potted in a big enough container with good soil and drainage.
Cannas seem to grow anywhere I even dug up some and threw them in the woods and they grew there !! They may not get as big in a pot but it's a good way to keep them contained so they don't spread so much
I would highly recommend either putting cannas in pots or other boundary. They can seriously take over. When I moved into a new home, there was a 12' x 6' area of overcrowded cannas. There were so many they were barely blooming. It took me 2 years of major digging up to eradicate. File this under, be careful what you wish for. :)
cannas are easy keepers. i have 2 growing in my basement as we speak. just a few clumps dirt and cannas are happy.
