I love Griswold- Here's a helpful guid to telling the difference between genuine and fake http://www.antiquetrader.com/antiques/how-to-avoid-fake-griswold-and-wagner-cast-iron-antiques
David, the ring around the bottom would fit in the hole in a wood stove top to keep the smoke out of the room. They're called "smoke rings". I was not aware there were knock-off Griswolds. My late husband collected Griswold. They even come in granite with colors. Yours has been very well cleaned and that's why it looks so pristine.
Thx so much
I have probably 20 Griswold pieces. Skillets, sauce pans, griddle, waffle maker, lids are hard to come by. I also resale from time to time.
Be sure to keep seasoned. Vinegar will take off rust....then season to keep from rusting again.
cook every day with cast iron...on glas to stove...just don't scoot or rub back and forth on glass top.
Love vintage cast iron. Too pricey here, but have picked up a couple pieces out of state.
I have 5 Iron skillets.......old and Griswold and Lodge. I know THEY gotta be old, they were my Grandmother's, that my Mom passed on to me,
Yes, that looks like a true original! Orange rust and hard to read lettering / numbers are a sure giveaway for fakes.
