If you go to https:www.proven winners.com/plants they give you the listings and local nurseries that carry them.

Take a picture of your spot. Go to your local nursery and get professional advice from those who know your area. Advise is free, often plants are guaranteed and instructions right for your circumstances.

Plant for bees ,butterflies. Milkweeds for our endangered Monarchs. Milkweed is the only plant they will lay their eggs on so, start with that. After that, lantana, porter weed, cosmos, and pinta. Find a local nursery though and not Big Box. My experience with Big Box stores is that the plants are not well rooted and they use insecticide which will kill the bees and the butterflies.

Thank you, I was thinking herbs and maybe a lemon and lavender plants to keep mosquitoes away.

Bitter smelling herbs will keep mosquitoes away. Marigolds are good too. A bird bath and bird bath will also help. Birds in the garden do much to keep out bugs. Birds that eat seeds will also eat bugs. It take so time to establish but worth it in the end.
