My yard is mostly shade, but love annual flowers. Any suggestions on what would thrive if any?

I have deep shade areas. my mainstay for years was impatiens . For the last two years I have used lots of coleus. They can be found in many bright, interesting color combinations and take almost no care.

    Columbine, violets, hostas

Thank you! I have had luck with only those three. I probably should have stated that in my post. Hostas are not my favorite although violets are nice but stay so close to ground. Columbine seem to be my only choice. I live in western New York where the weather can range from mild to very warm.

Hi M! My irises have always done well in partial to mostly shade. I may be showing my ignorance, though, because I'm not sure if they are annuals or perennials.

Okay, I just Googled it and irises are perennials. Good luck in your gardening this year! Obviously, I am new to the game!!

Impatiens are wonderful in shade and you can put your Christmas Cactus out there in the spring, summer and fall....they will bloom nicely for you at Christmas. Angel Leaf Begonias do well in shady areas....some sun will do but they do like shade. Lots of pretty flowers like shadier areas.
