I do not think that is necessary. How is your soil ?
That's the problem, here in Florida on the Gulf, our yard is just sand - no soil.
They can survive in the sandy soil somewhat because they like good drainage, but some amendments such as a good garden soil will help the sandy soil hold nutrients better.
.No ! I live in sandy Florida and add nothing.
