place a dish of straight ammonia into the oven close the door and leave overnight. Watch the fumes! By morning you should just be able to wash it all down.

Of course you can use commercial oven cleaner or others that are posted here. Make sure when wiping the oven that a wet rag does not touch the light socket inside the oven or you will get a horrible shock. After cleaning, give the oven another wipe down and you are done. Oh, you may want to lay newspaper on the floor under the door as the drips can be messy.

I was always afraid to use the self cleaning oven feature but used it a few weeks ago and loved the result. (I had tried vinegar and baking soda and dawn mixtures but that didn't cling to the sides and I became tired of the amount of effort for not terrific results.) My oven manual said to set the timing to 3 to 4 hours for tougher cases. I ran mine 2 hours and the oven was almost 100% cleaned. There were some tiny black spots left on the door and various places. I ran the self clean for another 1.5 hours the next day and there were no spots left. You have to watch for how hot the cabinets surrounding the oven get. The heat can damage them. I will never run mine for 2 hours again - there was no visible damage, but I just don't want the cabinets to get that hot again. Also I read one person had some plastic things damaged in the cabinet above her oven.
