I got a beautiful orchid for my birthday. It sits in my Dining Room so it is away from drafts. I water it when it's dry with a few ice cubes, but now it's flowers are wilting and dropping off. What can I do?

Maybe people are told ice cubes to prevent overwatering--but orchids don't like ice cubes! They're warm weather plants that grow on trees--so, they don't like a lot of water, either. Be sure the water drained out of pot. They like high humidity. See if you can find a picture of the type of orchid you have and find details on the light requirements. Some will rebloom, some won't. Good luck. They're worth the extra effort.

Agreed on the no ice cube method. I do not understand who came up with that, although it may work for some in certain areas and on certain orchids I am a firm believer of tepid water.

I think it was growers who want to sell more orchids when your's die. First thing to do when you get the orchid is to repot it in a clay pot that allows the roots to breathe in fir bark. Once a week, soak it for a few minutes in tepid water, let it drain and then give it some food in tepid water. Let it drain through and then put it on a tray with a raised area so it will not end up setting in water, give it moderate light if it is Phalenopsis. Check orchid growing habits, some require high light.
