What can we plant for privacy- trees or shrubs?

Looking for Hearty 8-10 ft privacy Tree or shrub for St. Clair MI area. Want to create a privacy screen on the east side of our yard. Prefer something with some denseness so that when leaves fall off there is still screening from branches. Our white pine trees have all succumbed to the disease in the area despite continuous preventative treatments and we are looking for a practical solution. Soil is mostly clay and exposure is heavy sun.
