I have mine in our open concept LR, DR, Kit. It faces direct South with a slider and two bay windows, so it gets hot in here in the Winter 86 degrees today. Night time 70-72. The secret is don't keep moving it around. My is on the entertainment center near the West window ( very cool there), old windows! It blooms at Thanksgiving or Christmas . it is over 20 years old. Hope this helps. CR from NH
It's ok for it to get coolish as long as there is enough sunlight.
It likes 65-70 days and 55-60 night time temps. So if you have enough light in your basement, go for it. What the worst that can happen... it won't bloom......or maybe it will. Don't forget to water it every two weeks. CR in NH
I think you should move it to the sun it is a cactus. It could be that it just needs some fertilizer or replanted. I use Jack's 20-20-20 on mine but different ones are out there mine blooms about every 2-3- months, but I live in Alaska and the light is different.
I have my Christmas cactus in a 3 season room with a hot tub. We keep a heater in there in winter set at 60 degrees. Sometimes it can be as low as 40 degrees in the room in winter. My Christmas cactus bloom all the time with hundreds of blossoms. I don't with old water or keep them in the dark. None of the suggested methods of getting Christmas cactus to bloom. They love where they are
I have had mine for about 5 years an it has bloomed maybe 3 times. The last time was in Nov 2p13 when my dad died n hasn't since. I even had to transplant it, then I didn't like the smell, when I watered it. I got a scent of a disinfect, so I bought a bag of new dirt n redid it.n it still has the smell.
