You can turn them into wall decor by clothes pinning them onto a string on your wall.
I just put mine on top of each other in a box.
1). Be sure they are clean and dry before going into storage. Mend anything that needs repairing.
2). Lay flat or fold flat and layer in storage box. If you want , you can insert white tissue paper between the layers.
3). Store in a dry location, in a box with a lid to keep out dust.
4). Be sure to clearly label the box , i.e....winter hats and gloves.
see my idea for handbags. I'm a knitter for 65 yrs so I value your items. Whatever you do stuff them with tissue paper when storing and stack one upon the other. I don't know how many you gave, bit a shelf up rather high in your bedroom and then put them on wig heads....CUTE !
To keep them from being eaten by moths, put some cedar shavings in a paper bag and hang it in your closet!!
I make knitted hats and scarves, and I purchased a large decorative box from a craft store and put them in there. It's pretty and keeps everything where it needs to be
Inflated balloons.
I just thought of another idea! Lay the hats side by side, inside of a space bag. then remove the air and you can enjoy them while you preserve them.
I have a ton of hats I have crocheted. I put mine inside clear plastic ziplock bags.....the large ones that dollar stores carry.....yarn doesn't wrinkle, and it fluffs out into shape when removed from the bag....I keep a Styrofoam "head" to display my most recent favourite hat and scarf set in my creative space. Hope this helps.
