Can you help with my bathroom renovation?

Before you make any decisions my best advice is do a lot of research. I have renovated my whole house and unfortunately a lot of mistakes were made. Try not to base you renovations based on colors of towels as as colors come and go.Stay as neutral so you can make changes with towels,and accessories. Browse through Houzz,Pinterest for color inspirations and updates.Also to take into consideration of paint colors,vaniety colors,tile color is the size of the bathroom and lighting.It is my opinion choosing a larger tile always makes a bathroom look larger.There are so many considerations.Good lUck

Here my 2 ideas. You could have new doors made in a more contemorary design, shaker maybe? Then, you can use the existing vanity. Paint it out. Remove the mirror and replace with 2 individual framed mirrors.

I have a garden tub in my master bath and I wanted to make it look like a Roman bath. I purchased some 5" PVC pipe, some marble-looking contact paper (the design actually matched my counter tops!) and 4 decorative white plastic urns. I covered the PVC pipe with the contact paper, trimming the ends. I set the pipe in the urn on the tub ledge, and I used the bottom of another urn to make the capital (turning it upside down and fitting it into the pipe at the ceiling.) I screwed the "capital" into the ceiling to hold it in place. After I had a column installed on each side of the garden tub, I cut up a styrofoam ring, inserted it into the urn around the column, then filled each urn with fake ivy. To finish off the look, I had a plaster wall hanging "fountain", complete with a spicket and bowl that I hung on the wall above the tub, and I filled it with fake hanging ivy as well. It looks beautiful! I'll post a picture of it as soon as I can.

I would pick floor tiles in a medium grey but not those that have come out now because that will date the house in the future. I agree that a nice large tile is the way to go and I would put it on an angle. Then I would pick a light grey for the walls. I would pick a vanity in black since in future easy to change out but rest is neutral and a marble top. I would have white drop in sinks. I personally like goose neck faucets to provide more room to wash hands and brush teeth. I would use accessories to add color and the navy would look great for now and as you get bored of it you can pick whatever color you want. You have a large vanity keep it clutter free and display a basket with rolled hand towels and a hand soap holders in silver plus have soap dispenser in silver and blind it up if it's plain but at a great price since you need two. I would add candles in crystal clear holders not pillars they look dated to 90s but pillars same as you would for dining room table. I would get holders in various heights. I might get an orchid in white for area by tub. I would get to mirrors that dont match but in height in silver paint which you can do if you find great price. I would blind up your's to show its a females space. I would pick lights in a silver finish for holder but it ability to change out the shades I would save original ones for later when you get bored. I would pick them out in clear modern shape but simple. Oh paint ceiling in grey as same as walls. Don't cut it off with white makes room look smaller that way. You want a fresh romantic look don't your typical traditional look. Room will appear larger and more polished. I personally don't like rugs in bathroom I like bath mats that dy quicker and then you can put away. Rugs tend to remind me of the old days when people would put that shaggy cover on toilet lid,yuck. It should be in color close to floor or pure white so that when our change things out you don't need that changed out. Heck after all of that I want to redo mine now. It's scheduled for next year Lord willing. It sounds expensive but you will need less tiles if you purchase larger ones. You can't forget shower though if it has tile like your present floor. Retile it as well and make sure all faucets match in color and finish. If you can make sure that shower has a clear finished door that opens like a door so it can be easily cleaned. Look for deals every week until you have everything you need so you can get job done quickly. Preorder vanity and top pick out sinks and make sure that they aren't cracked place inside house not garage. Same thing for tile and get a few extra since cutting will happen also keep inside house and check to make sure none are broken. When vanity arrives have them remove from box in room it's going in and check carefully inside and out. Also measure sink holes that they are correctly done. Great luck and whatever you decide send me pictures. I'm so excited for you. Do think long and hard and be prepared because that large mirror is glued to wall so drywall will need to be repaired. Oh update door knob. Now if you can't afford to do it all at once don't start until you have item's be patiently. I know it's hard to wait but don't get into debt and don't settle. Just wait and it will come together and make you happy once completed and if using contracter check other work they have done and put into contract that he/she will be there every day all day with his workers and check in on them look for errors that can be fixed at that point. They are human. Make sure with your level that floor is level homes settle so expect it to not be and insist that they apply leveling compound. Don't pick grout in white. And have tile placed as close as possible to eliminate distraction. Grout should be as close to tile color as possible. I prefer Sherwin William paint. Get gloss so it can be cleaned and so it reflects all new bling. Get permits so you can be sure things are done properly with water and electrical.

Are you working on a budget? If so, I would keep the tile. It's actually timeless and looks like it's in good condition. I agree that the mirror would look better if it were two small mirrors. You can create a spa look with wood....maybe you can attach it framing the mirror (save as much mirror as you can). You can also use the wood look around the walls or tub. I can't tell if there is a separate shower. I would use a gray/brown wood that will bring out the beige in the floor tiles and introduce the grays you want to incorporate. I would paint the cabinets black (a semi-gloss vs matte or enamel). I would update the faucets to either a more modern or traditional black or an antique black and that is for all fixtures. Change all chrome/metallic fixtures (towel rods, etc.) to match the faucets. I think those simple changes will create a beautiful spa-like room and you can choose beautiful navy/gray/beige linens to complement the look. The highest cost in this fix will be the fixtures, but you won't be sorry.

I'd change the floor tiles out to something like this - gray travertine would look fabulous:

I'd paint the cabinets white and use white grout in the floor tile.

It really depends on what you like. If you're truly sick of the tile, then you may want to look at some of the newer "wood-look" porcelain tiles at your local home store or tile shop. It can really give it a unique look. When I last did our bathroom, we had the old 50's pink fixtures and the little square tiles in black and white. Obviously needed a major overhaul when we found a leak, so we decided to just rip it all out and upgrade everything. At the time (2011?) we went with 12x12 marble look tiles in beige with a glass tile trim in browns. We added a low heigh white tub, a higher oval toilet and sink with simple chrome/silver fixtures. The advantage of using larger tiles is the work goes much faster and their is less to grout (and clean.) Our tub doesn't quite fit wall to wall in the alcove, so there is a shelf on the one side which we used a piece of flat marble threshold to cap it off. It's good for storing all of the hair care bottles since we have limited space anyway. One tip, if you're doing this yourself, make sure the floor/walls are plumb and level. Any gaps or bumps will eventually transfer to your tiles and cause them to fail. For floor tiles, I'd recommend installing over wire mesh as it will give it some extra reinforcement. Either way, enjoy your makeover!
