You can protect the joint sand from washing out by sealing the paver surface. Sealing restores the beauty of your pavers. The paver sealer also serves as glue between the joint sand particles hence holding them together, and preventing the sand from being washed away when it rains or during pressure washing. The sealer wears off after a few years so make sure to clean the pavers and seal the surface again. This will keep the pavers looking new, and also boost their resistance against weed and moss. Sealing also helps stabilize the joint sand – a simple preventive measure you can practice to increase paver longevity. In addition, paver sealer protects pavers from oil, rust, and other stains. Good luck!
We used a fine crushed limestone base on our patio . Don't use sand, it erodes and the ants love it. Then we used a concrete type of sand to sweep in the cracks, spray with water to harden.
Sorry I can't be specific on the names but we purchased our supplies from Home Depot.
I did most of this myself and it's been 5 years-still level and looks great!
lt depends what your base layer is made of. Are pavers over concrete slab or gravel, sand? If gravel base, mix a little Portland cement with mason sand. Don't use play sand. Can also add cement dye which comes in multiple colors to fit with the pavers. Don't add to much cement otherwise it will crack during winter months. 1 part cement, 5 parts sand. Mine is 4yrs and still looks great. Touch ups very minimal.
