What Chemicals, and Cleaning Pads , would you use to clean a Bath Tub with years off Inground Stains, and Soap Scum, and Calcium, and Chemical Stains. With out Harsh Scrubbing, and with out using a Metal Grinder. Or very Abraisive Acids. With out taking the Enamel off. . chris.mueller53@gmail.com

You can also try Barkeeper's Friend. Let that sit for a bit and wipe with a non abrasive pad. Good luck!

Barkeepers Friend is the brand name of the product. I'm always amazed at how many stores stock it, so you should be able to find it Chris. Good luck.

Another cleaner that works great and requires little scrubbing is CLR liquid in the yellow bottle. Spray it on and let it sit a few minutes. Wipe with a non abrasive scouring pad.

Hi Cjfrang, Does C.L.R. really work, as one time in my working career I used Originald C.L.R. mixed with water in a buckett, trying to clean Calcium off a Old Urinal, this was a waste off time, maybe C.L.R. has to be used NEAT Straight out off the Spray Bottle. Would this work on Ceramic Surface's Bath Tub, Olden Style Bath Tub, 20 years Plus Stains are light brown, to light grey to dark grey in places.

I know this requires a little scrubbingbut you can purchase a pumice stone (the one for your feet it's not abrasive) and use that on stubborn stains. You can also use it on toilets to remove hard water stains that won't scrub out even with CLR.

I think I would start first with a Mr Clean eraser--that will help with overall grime and soap scum. Rinse, and then see what you needs further removal/harsher chemicals.

The original blue Dawn dish detergent and vinegar..Spray on ..Let sit a few minutes and I always spray one more time ..No scrubbing,!!! Works great !

    • Chris Mueller Chris Mueller on Mar 25, 2017

Hi Debbie, This Dishwashing Detergent, does it have to be the Original Blue Dawn, and the Vinegar what type is needed as there are many types off Vinegar, Including Cleaning Vinegar, Apple Cidar Vinegar, ////////////// Brown Vinegar, White Vinegar. I have heard that some kind of Vinegar mixed with other Detergents / Chemicals, works wonders on inground stains. Even 20 yrs + Old. What are your Thoughts CHRIS.

I dealt with this for a few years, hard water the color of dial soap ... I bought every product suggested then I tried oven cleaner. Spray it on, wait 20 minutes, wipe off the grime w/o elbow grease. Conversely, Scrubbing Bubbles cleaned my range top and surrounding area just as easily. Who knew?

  • Chris Mueller Chris Mueller on Mar 25, 2017

Hi Mary, I will try the Dishwashing liquid with some type of Vinegar, if this does'nt work then I will try your Idea of Oven Cleaner, what type would you recommend. . . Kind Regards. . CHRIS.

I don't know if CLR Kitchen and Bath (yellow spray bottle) will work on your tub surface but it works great on the tubs in my rental apartment where tenants don't clean as well as I clean my own tub. It removes soap scum and grime with little effort. These tubs are old (80 plus years) and the shine is gone so the grime tends to build up. I use it straight out of the spray bottle and let it sit a little. I can't say for sure it will work on the stains but it's cheap - about $4 in home depot- so it's worth a try.

It seems that they do carry it. You could also buy it online from Amazon or other sites.

  • Nancy Nancy on Mar 25, 2017

Not sure if it would work for your issue but couldn't hurt to try it. It's safe, and somewhat natural. Lemonade Kool-aid mix, in the packets without sugar of course, has taken years old hard water stains out of one of my toilets. I left it full strength and let it settle to the bottom as this is where the stains were. I think if you mixed it with some baking soda, or washing soda, and a little water to make a paste, you could spread it around, let it set for a couple of hours and wipe with a soft rag it should come right off. Any stains that don't come off can be scrubbed with a half lemon and a bit of salt.

Hi Chris, I've had to clean and EXTREMELY neglected shower and tub. Spent a lot of time and effort (a whole day) but finally got the job done completely exhausted. However, the next time I faced the same problem I figured, what the heck, and tried The Works toilet bowl cleaner. You'll need gloves and maybe a mask, but start at the top of the shower wall and let the cleaner wash down. You'll watch the hard water actually dissolve! You will need to scrub some with a kitchen sponge that has a scrub side, but the job will go a whole lot faster and easier. Just yesterday I cleaned the calcium deposits - 2 yrs worth,- off my outdoor pond in about and hour and with about 1 1/2 bottles of The Works (under $2). The Works also works on badly stained tile grout. Beats CLR, bleach, Ajax, you name it. Good luck.

weirdly - Head & Shoulders Classic shampoo - spread on tub & leave it for a day or however long you can - it cleaned our 1947 tub easier & better than 'real' cleaning supplies - also makes it more manageable & tangle free!

  • Chris Mueller Chris Mueller on Apr 02, 2017
